Trump Booed at the Yankees Hiding Behind Bulletproof Glass

The president was booed at a top sporting event in his hometown.

Donald Trump was not welcomed to Yankee Stadium on Thursday in the best of fashions, appearing to waves of boos from the New York crowd.

Security had been heightened in advance of the president’s arrival at the game against the Detroit Tigers, with bulletproof glass added to the front of his suite. But that couldn’t stop the sound of fans’ disapproval from ringing in his ears.

Although there was a smattering of cheers and claps, the response when Trump made his way to his seat in the Steinbrenner suite was mostly negative.

When the president was shown on the big screen later on during the national anthem, there seemed to be more cheers, though boos could still be heard.

The White House did not immediately respond when the Daily Beast asked for its interpretation of Trump’s reception at the game.

Thursday was the president’s second frosty greeting from New York sports fans in less than a week. Last Sunday, he was booed at the U.S. Open, where the men’s final was delayed because extra security measures kept hundreds of fans waiting outside the stadium.

Before Thursday’s game, Trump had to go elsewhere to find a supportive audience: the home team’s clubhouse. There, he talked about his friendship with former Yankees owner George Steinbrenner, and said this year’s team would “go all the way.”
