Texas Superintendent Warns Parents of School Bus Immigration Raids

A school in San Antonio warned parents that students might be questioned at highway checkpoints.

The Alice Independent School District in San Antonio, Texas, issued a letter on Thursday warning parents about U.S Border Patrol agents boarding school buses at highway checkpoints, News4SA reported. “We have received information that U.S. Border Patrol agents may be boarding school buses at highway checkpoints in and out of the Valley to question students about their citizenship status,” read the letter, signed by Superintendent Anysia Trevino. The letter, addressed to parents of students who participate in extracurricular activities and sports, warned families about the consequences of such encounters with patrol agents. It stressed that if a student is discovered without the required documentation, they might be removed from the country, and face detention and potential deportation under current immigration laws. The district also warned that proving false information or lying about citizenship could permanently bar a student from future U.S. citizenship. A Border Patrol spokesperson told the Daily Beast that the agency does not target school buses or children, but said agents may occasionally board buses at checkpoints.
