Sean Duffy Mocked for Pointing Out the Obvious About Plane Crash

“Oh, thanks for making that clear, genius,” one social media user wrote after the newly sworn in secretary of transportation’s comment.

Sean Duffy, who found fame on The Real World: Boston and the Fox Business channel, is having a rough first 24 hours as secretary of transportation. Hours after the deadly collision of an American Airlines jet and Army helicopter in Washington, D.C., Duffy became the subject of mockery after commenting: “Obviously, it is not standard to have aircraft collide. I want to be clear on that.” Duffy was responding to a reporter’s question about the flight path of the Black Hawk that collided with the CRJ 700. The crash, which left no survivors, raised questions about the air congestion around Reagan Airport. Commercial flights frequently share airspace with military aircraft because of the airport’s proximity to the center of government. Duffy, a former congressman, will be expected to face the cameras again and provide answers on the crash, which he called “preventable.” So far, people are not impressed by his observation that planes aren’t supposed to crash. “Oh, thanks for making that clear, genius,” one social media wrote. Another said, “This is what happens when you give reality TV personalities real jobs.”
