Rudy Giuliani, 81, in Critical Condition After Feeling ‘Under the Weather’

Why the former New York mayor was hospitalized is unclear.

Rudy Giuliani is in “critical condition” at a Florida hospital, his spokesperson announced on Sunday.

The former New York mayor’s spokesperson, Ted Goodman, did not specify which hospital he was in but said in a statement shared to X that he “remains in critical but stable condition.”

“Mayor Giuliani is a fighter who has faced every challenge in his life with unwavering strength, and he’s fighting with that same level of strength as we speak,” Goodman said. “We do ask that you join us in prayer for America’s Mayor Rudy Giuliani.”

Why the 81-year-old disbarred attorney was hospitalized, and how long he has been there, are unclear.

The former mayor had hosted his online show, “America’s Mayor Live,” on Friday from Palm Beach, Florida, where, in a particularly hoarse voice, he had remarked that he was “a little under the weather.”

“My voice is a little under the weather,” he said, after coughing during the opening of his livestream. “So I won’t be able to speak as loudly as I usually do, but I’ll get closer to the microphone.”

Reps for Giuliani did not immediately return the Daily Beast’s request for comment on his condition.

President Donald Trump offered his support to his former personal lawyer in a post on Truth Social, taking the opportunity to politicize the moment.

“Our fabulous Rudy Giuliani, a True Warrior, and the Best Mayor in the History of New York City, BY FAR, has been hospitalized, and is in critical condition,” Trump, 79, wrote. “What a tragedy that he was treated so badly by the Radical Left Lunatics, Democrats ALL — AND HE WAS RIGHT ABOUT EVERYTHING! They cheated on the Elections, fabricated hundreds of stories, did anything possible to destroy our Nation, and now, look at Rudy. So sad!"

Giuliani was previously hospitalized in August after getting into a car accident in New Hampshire.

Trump’s political ally was rear-ended on the highway on August 30, leaving him with a fractured thoracic vertebra, multiple lacerations and bruises, and injuries to his left arm and lower leg, his head of security said in a statement at the time.

Trump announced shortly after Giuliani’s accident that he would award his friend the Presidential Medal of Freedom, the highest civilian honor in the U.S.

Following his hospitalization, Giuliani was seen in public in a wheelchair.

Giuliani became mayor of New York City in 1994 after defeating incumbent mayor David N. Dinkins. He remained in office through December 2001 after the September 11 terrorist attacks.

The Republican served as a close adviser on Trump’s legal team during his first presidency, and was a major voice amplifying false claims that Trump had won the 2020 election.

Giuliani’s election claims led to his disbarment in both New York and Washington, D.C., and he faced multiple lawsuits and criminal charges. Giuliani denied wrongdoing in the criminal cases.

A jury awarded $148 million in damages to two Georgia poll workers who sued Giuliani for defamation after the 2020 election. He reached a settlement with the pair last year.

However, Trump issued a “full, complete, and unconditional” pardon to him in November.
