It’s pure chaos, and Little Monsters everywhere wouldn’t have it any other way. On Mar. 7, Lady Gaga set the music world on fire with the release of Mayhem, her long-awaited seventh studio album—and it’s everything Gaga fans have been craving.

From the first pounding beat to the last glitchy outro, Mayhem hits with all the maximalist production, pulse-pounding tempos, and lyrics that are as genius as they are gibberish. Since its release, critics and fans alike are heralding it as a return to form for the pop star. With its fierce nod to the theatrics of The Fame Monster, this album isn’t just meeting expectations—it’s smashing them.
A review from the Guardian described Mayhem as Gaga’s “fabulous return to her freaky first principles,” shouting out “Garden of Eden,” a song about a drunken hookup in a club, as a perfect example of Gaga’s ability to craft bangers that are practically made for the dance floor.

“You start to slur and, and I start to squeal/I’m fallin' over in my nine-inch heels,” Gaga sings on the track.
Pitchfork declared Mayhem a “maximalist pop symphony,” describing the album as stuffed full of addictive hooks, pivots, and stylized production. Variety described Mayhem as a “blast,” giving a particular shoutout to “Blade of Grass” as one of the album’s standouts for its theatrical key changes.
“Lovers kiss in a garden made of thorns/Traces of lonely words, illusions torn,” Gaga sings in the chorus of “Blade of Grass.”
While critic reviews for Mayhem are almost entirely positive across the board, fans' response to the singer’s new album has been nothing short of euphoric.
On X, Little Monsters were practically on their knees, bowing down to their queen for the gift she bestowed upon them.

10/10 album. Felt like classic Lady Gaga but adapted and evolved to fit right into modern times.

“Lady gaga. the icon you are. #mayhem is pop perfection!” one user wrote.
“Lady Gaga is mother forever,” another commented.
On Reddit, fans' responses to Mayhem have been just as positive, with many proclaiming, “MY HIPS CANT STOP MOVING OMGGGGGG……..” and “the Hooks are HOOKing.”
In the press release for Mayhem, Gaga stated that this album was about “returning to the pop music my earliest fans loved.” And, if fan reactions to Mayhem are any indication, then Gaga gave them exactly that, producing an album that isn’t just a return to her old sound but might also be her best album yet.
