NYPD Says ‘No Indication’ Luigi Mangione Was a UnitedHealthcare Client
NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny believes the suspect may have targeted the company for a different reason than many initially assumed.

NYPD’s Chief of Detectives has revealed that cops have “no indication” that Luigi Mangione was ever a client of UnitedHealthcare.
The top suspect in the murder of the insurance company’s CEO, Brian Thompson, Mangione was arrested earlier this week in Pennsylvania. As police continue to sift through evidence, Joseph Kenny told NBC New York that their findings so far don’t indicate that Mangione had a personal vendetta against UnitedHealthcare or Thompson, but rather allegedly targeted the company for its size and because he knew a conference was taking place in New York in December.
“We have no indication that he ever was a client of UnitedHealthcare, but he does make mention that it is the fifth-largest corporation in America, which would make it the largest healthcare organization in America,” Kenny told the outlet. “So that’s possibly why he targeted that company.
“He had prior knowledge that the conference was taking place on that date, at that location,” Kenny added.

In a notebook retrieved by police that is believed to belong to Mangione, the 26-year-old pondered the best way to target a CEO of a big corporation, arriving at using a gun to not “risk innocents.”
“What do you do? You wack the CEO at the annual parasitic bean-counter convention,” Mangione wrote in the notebook, according to NBC New York. “It’s targeted, precise, and doesn’t risk innocents.”
Kenny also added that it appears that Mangione had an accident in the summer of 2023 that left him with a “life-changing, life-altering injury” that “may have put him on this path.”

Mangione is currently in custody at SCI Huntingdon in Pennsylvania. His next court appearance is slated for Dec. 30, where the matter of his gun charges will be tackled.
Mangione’s attorney has previously said his client intends to plead not guilty to charges in both Pennsylvania and New York.
