The acting White House chief of staff said he was ‘not sure what more you want the president to do’ and maintained Trump is doing all he can to prevent a similar attack.

Mick Mulvaney insisted that the president “is not a white supremacist” in an interview where he was asked why Trump hasn’t spoken out against Islamophobia following the New Zealand mosque attacks that left 50 people dead. “The President is not a white supremacist,” the seemingly frustrated acting White House chief of Staff said to Fox News Sunday host Chris Wallace. “I’m not sure how many times we have to say that.” Wallace asked Mulvaney what Trump thought of how the suspected shooter said he supported the President “as a symbol of renewed white identity and common purpose?” “I’m a little disappointed you didn’t put up the next sentence,” Mulvaney said. “The next sentence...was, ‘What about for his policies and as a leader?’ He says ‘dear god, no.’” “I don’t think it’s fair to cast this person as as a supporter of Donald Trump,” Mulvaney responded, saying it would be equally unfair to say he supports Nancy Pelosi or Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez due to his “eco-terrorist passages.” Wallace said he wanted to make clear that Trump wasn’t responsible for the massacres, but “some critics have said he has contributed, over the years, to an anti-Muslim climate.” “Why not make a speech and make it clear that there is no place in America for this kind of hatred?” Wallace pressed. Mulvaney said he is “not sure what more you want the president to do,” and maintained Trump is doing all he can to prevent a similar attack in the United States.
