MSNBC Host Says Trump Is Too Scared to Fire Back at Musk
MSNBC host calls them “the two strangest rich people in the world.”
MSNBC host Lawrence O’Donnell revealed his theory behind Donald Trump’s silence after Elon Musk slammed his ‘big beautiful bill’ as a “disgusting abomination.”
Speaking on The Last Word on Tuesday, O’Donnell claimed the president is simply afraid of Musk.
“Elon Musk was escorted out the door of the White House Friday before sunset,” O’Donnell said of the billionaire tapping out of his DOGE duties.
“He stayed silent about all things Trump...before he cracked on Tuesday and attacked Donald Trump with these words ‘I’m sorry, but I just can’t stand it anymore’.”
Musk wrote on X: “This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination. Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.”

O’Donnell said the tweet was a seismic political event. “This was the moment that all the watchers of Elon Musk and Donald Trump have been waiting for since Elon Musk joined the Trump presidential campaign,” he stated on Tuesday.

“How long could the two strangest rich people in the world stand each other? Elon Musk declared on day 134 of the Trump presidency: `I just can’t stand it anymore.’”

This massive, outrageous, pork-filled Congressional spending bill is a disgusting abomination.
Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong. You know it.
“And in response, the explosively rageful Donald Trump said—nothing. And that is how you know who Donald Trump fears in this world. If you attack Donald Trump and Donald Trump says nothing, Donald Trump’s silence is the biggest expression of fear that he has.”
White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump was already aware of “where Elon Musk stood on this bill” before his social media attack.
“This is one big, beautiful bill,” Leavitt said on Tuesday. “And he’s sticking to it.”
Trump posted repeatedly on his Truth Social account on Tuesday night, but at time of publication had not addressed Musk directly.
O’Donnell claimed Trump would be scared of Musk potentially withdrawing his money—the billionaire donated $288 million to Trump’s 2024 campaign.
“Donald Trump fears the richest person in the world turning his money against Donald Trump’s candidates in Republican primary elections,” O’Donnell said.
“And Donald Trump fears the richest person in the world convincing Republican members of the Senate, and the House, not to vote for Donald Trump’s budget bill that Elon Musk now calls a `disgusting abomination’.”
The TV host also compared Musk’s exit from the White House to Trump’s reality TV show The Apprentice and said Musk may have been blindsided by losing his DOGE role.

“Elon Musk’s last TV performance with Donald Trump on Friday in the Oval Office may have been less a farewell ceremony than it was the latest version of Donald Trump’s ‘You’re fired!’ TV show,” O’Donnell said.
“Elon Musk lashed out at Donald Trump and it may be because NBC News is reporting Musk had hoped to stay on in his special government employee capacity beyond the 130-day period, which the White House ultimately did not accommodate. If true, then Elon Musk was effectively fired by Donald Trump, which could explain Elon Musk screaming at the top of his Twitter lungs this afternoon.”
O’Donnell finished by referencing another of Musk’s X posts that read: “In November next year, we fire all politicians who betrayed the American people.”
“That means Elon Musk wants to fire the man who apparently fired him on Friday,” O’Donnell said. “That’s Elon Musk saying that Donald Trump betrayed the American people by pushing this bill that Elon Musk now calls a ‘disgusting abomination’.”
“Elon Musk wants to fire Donald Trump for betraying the American people, which is five years late. Donald Trump betrayed the American people by putting Elon Musk in charge of destroying the American government as we know it, for as much as he possibly could for 130 days.”
