Fox Correspondent Begs Trump to Change Amid Economic Spiral

Charles Gasparino advised the president and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent to “stop talking about tariffs so much.”

Fox Business Network Senior Correspondent Charles Gasparino told Donald Trump and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent not to point to tariffs when trying to argue about the strength of the economy.

“They have to go out there and maybe stop talking about tariffs so much and start talking about how we’re going to infuse the economy,” Gasparino advised Monday on Fox News’ The Story with Martha MacCallum.

The finance journalist’s input comes amid continued slides in the stock market due to concerns from both investors and consumers about Trump’s tariff plans.

Last week, the president reversed course and removed most tariffs on Canada and Mexico just 48 hours after putting them on. A few days later, he was even asked pointedly on Fox News about tariffs harming the stock market. Trump maintained that this was a “period of transition” that is ultimately for the best.

To Gasparino, focusing on tariffs worsens Wall Street insiders’ “herd mentality.”

“The herd is really negative right now, and it’s focused all on tariffs,” he told MacCallum, claiming that part of issue is that the Trump administration needs to sell its plan better.

“We’re getting good stuff coming from this economy,” he predicted, citing “tax cuts” and “deregulation.”

“And for the markets, I think some of this is a sales job,” he said, one which requires talking about how “we’re going to release the animal spirits...[and] we’re going to deregulate stuff.”
