Donald Trump Shades Musk: ‘What the F*** Is Wrong With Him?’

A new book details the president’s withering put-downs.

Donald Trump does not reserve his scathing put-downs exclusively for enemies—he also picks on supporters, as Elon Musk found out during the 2024 election campaign, according to a new book.

Musk famously bounced around the stage in a black MAGA hat with his T-shirt untucked and baring his stomach at a Trump rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, the scene of the failed assassination attack.

According to author Michael Wolff, a “bewildered” Trump said afterward: “What the f--- is wrong with this guy? And why doesn’t his shirt fit?”

In his new book, All or Nothing: How Trump Recaptured America, Wolff writes that before his exuberant performance, Musk had dissed Trump’s running mate JD Vance.

Musk was “wandering about by himself, with only a thin layer of assistants or security” and was hungry so “someone produces a bag of pretzel sticks,” reports Wolff. Then, he says, Musk is asked if he’d like to meet Vance.

“I’ve really no interest in speaking to a vice president,” Musk replied, according to the book.

Trump also mocked Rupert Murdoch’s age, writes Wolff, toward the end of the campaign when he was “bragging” that the media mogul was calling him every day. “Trump added to friends that the 93-year-old Murdoch could not remember that he had called him the day before,” adds the best-selling author of the number one best-seller Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House.

On the campaign trail, Trump wasn’t above repeating unsubstantiated “QAnon-type chatter” about people he perceived as his opposition.

In his book, Wolff doesn’t name Michelle Obama, but he writes that Trump thought the Democratic Party would replace Joe Biden with “Mike” Obama when the president decided to pull out of the White House race.

“People call her ‘Mike’ you know. You know that don’t you?” Wolff quotes Trump as saying. “They think she looks pretty manly. Those very big shoulders. What’s that about? That’s what people will call her if she runs, ‘Mike.’ That’s the name she’ll have: ‘Mike.’”

Wolff writes that Trump had been mesmerized by the OJ Simpson trial in the 1990s, and that the former reality TV star considered Simpson a “hero” and was impressed by his “Dream Team” of lawyers.

But Trump wasn’t always so happy about his own lawyers during his various legal battles, and made some of his most withering attacks on attorneys he felt had badly represented him.

After he was indicted in the criminal case that led to him being convicted of 34 felonies for hush-money payments to porn star Stormy Daniels, Trump erupted, writes Wolff, saying: “Why do I have such shitty lawyers? How did the lawyers get this so wrong?”

Wolff claims that he also unleashed on Todd Blanche, one of his attorneys in the case, now nominated as deputy attorney general, saying: “I don’t even know what you’re doing here? I told you to stop this… I paid you to handle this. But you’re blowing it... Why are you so weak? I don’t know why I’m paying you.”

Wolff recounts Trump also chewing out his second-chair team, Gedalia Stern, Susan Necheles, and Emil Bove, who is now his acting deputy general, saying: “How could you lose that? You were terrible. Now I get stuck with you.”

Responding to a request from the Daily Beast for comment, White House Communications Director Steven Cheung, said: “Michael Wolff is a lying sack of s--t and has been proven to be a fraud. He routinely fabricates stories originating from his sick and warped imagination, only possible because he has a severe and debilitating case of Trump Derangement Syndrome that has rotted his peanut-sized brain.”
