State Races Test Obama Authority
Republicans are hoping to finish out Tuesday's elections by picking up governor's seats in both Virginia and New Jersey, possibly demonstrating a national mood far less favorable to Obama and the Democrats than during last year's election. In Virginia, the Republican candidate, Bob McDonnell, heads into the election with a double-digit opinion-poll advantage over his Democratic rival, Creigh Deeds, while in New Jersey, Democratic incumbent Jon Corzine and Republican challenger Chris Christie are neck-and-neck. While the likely Republican win in Virginia reflects a generally Republican state—Obama is the only Democratic presidential nominee to win the state since 1964—the New Jersey race could be a setback for Democrats, who tend to do well in the liberal state. Obama has campaigned extensively for Corzine in the state the president won by 16 points last year, but polls show the candidates in a dead heat, with independent Chris Daggett consistently pulling about 10%. In a smaller race that's nonetheless drawn national interest, Conservative Party candidate Doug Hoffman is squaring off against Democrat Bill Owens for the New York congressional seat left vacant by Republican John McHugh, appointed Secretary of the Army by President Obama. NY-23, usually a safe Republican seat, became the focus of nationwide attention when conservatives derided original Republican candidate Dede Scozzafava as too liberal; Scozzafava withdrew from the race this weekend, and, in an unusual twist, endorsed the Democrat.

time to sweep out the trash. a Republican sweep.
The "trash" is the Republican Party which left us with a crashed economy and two budget-busting, horribly mismanaged and unnessecary wars. It is really incredible that less than a year after W. and his Republican Congress, having imposed their ultra-right-wing agenda on this country for nearly a decade, and having left this country literally in tatters at home and abroad, has people like you hailing this election as a "comeback". Maybe with people like this America deserves to be in the terrible shape it is in; maybe with such near-sighted, completely clueless voters which tout this GOP of abject failure, this country deserves in the near future to play second fiddle to China and others. Although I do feel that these elections are meaningless, and its just the mainstream media having fun with another boxing match--but to hear people cheering a political party which failed this country so abjectly is absolutely mind-boggling. Go ahead, put them back into power and make China's day. America will not survive another Republican takeover.
People in NY and VA are voting whether they like Obama or not. Deeds ran a disorganized campaign the last to Dem govs in VA ran excellent campaigns (particularly Mark Warner). That counts for more than who is in the Whitehouse.
But it is notable that the last 8 govs of VA were of the party NOT in the Whitehouse. So why didn't these same GOP's claim that the VA races where rejections of Reagon, Bush and Bush the second. Nah, that pattern only apples to the 2 dem Presidents.
Sorry, NOT voting on whether they like Obama or not. (the word NOT was greatly needed there.)
That's what the tea party movement is all about, I know everyone made fun of them, buuuut this is what they were talking about, they are pissed at Republicans and Democrats who are hijacking our government... They want small government, conservative spending, lower taxes and they don't care what party you belong to.
There you go blaming the Republicans again, they are not alone in this problem, they were wrong, but the Democrats are doing the same thing with Health Care, and Cap and Trade, Stimulus bill, pork filled budget...
This is not what people voted for this is not change, it's more of the same, just different party.
Correction: This country will not survive without a conservative takeover. Mellisa, your typical liberal dem propaganda talking points are nothing more than background noise. Guaranteed to cure insomnia, nothing more.
diamondgirl: I love your tea parties. By showing how crazy people on the extreme right have become, independents are likely to be voting with Democrats for many years.
Please keep purifying the Republican party and driving out your moderates. As long as you do this, I don't have to worry about 2012. (Go Palin!)
Alan Alan Alan, you are so wrong, if all three win tonight you will eat your words.
Thats what this is all about and I am not a Tea party member either, but i am paying attention and not reading any Democrat talking points into these elections.
You can try to SPIN the Tea Party people all you want but, these are conservatives, Independent, Republicans,& Democrats. Not crazy left or right wing nut jobs like you sweetie...You sound exhausted from all you bloviating, go take a nap and when you wake up it will all be over...
Newsmax reported this morning ACORN from several states is agressively working with their committees to signup abstantee voters in New Jersey going door to door to bring out the vote for Corzine who requests that they keep a low profile...I wonder how many of those votes are valid or fraudulent....It may be awhile before we know who the winner is as the ACORN ballots are counted and recounted based on their past history.
The crashed economy had MANY causes. Let's start with the cause of most recessions, rising fuel costs. Unless we get off of foreign oil, another recession WILL happen. Both parties are to blame.
Another cause of the crashed economy is the housing market bubble. Was there a way to stop rising cost of housing?
The above problems led to the tightened money supply. Did the Democrat Chairmen in charge the past 3 years do anything to foresee this? Who was enforcing the existing laws and regulations? What did Nancy Pelosi do to legislate change? Nothing. In fact Nancy refused to put forth anyone's ideas except her own.
BALLOTING ACORNS !!
diamondgirl: Even if all three win tonight (and you cannot have three Republican victories, because no Republican is now running in New York district 23), Barak Obama will still be reelected in 2012 - especially if you run Sarah Palin against him.
It also looks like health care reform will pass this year (or early next year). Another Obama success!
The TV news people are making too much out of these governor races, that is, if the Dem doesn't win, it's a repudiation of the President. I vote in all elections, municipal, gubernatorial, and presidential, and for some reason I don't care who is the governor. I don't know why that is, but others have told me the same thing. The people who loved Obama just don't care who will be governor in VA, for instance, so they will not turn out.
It's got nothing to do with Pres. Obama. Besides, present day voters vote for the person, not the party, which I think is crazy, but it is so.
You are absolutely right! Frankly, after 2 year long presidential campaign, I think a lot of folks are suffering from voter fatigue. The only people whipping up the hysteria over these races is the newsfolk who really want to manufacture a story for us. The 24-hour news cycle has to create reasons for their relevancy and the coverage of these elections is a prime example of that.
I could care less about upstate NY, the NJ Governor or the VA governor; I voted in my puny little 2 item election here in Denver and that's plenty for me.
I'll get a good movie for tonight because I don't care about any of the returns that do not affect me, no matter how many idiot-box squawkers are yakking it up.
Spin, spin, spin!
LOLOLOL Right....after what you guys did to us for 8 years you expect a sweeep? LOL Only in your little minds.
OF COUSE they will win both races today! The are repug strong holds and have been for over 60 years. See all of you though in 2010 and we shall see then.
did you forget NJ is so liberal and so not a strong hold.
ALL of these districts voted for Obama, and the dems were supposed to win in all three races today! Hey it's early, If Obama didn't care, why did he come to NJ 5 times for Corzine? He stumped in African American neighborhoods to get out their vote on Sunday, Camden and Newark...Do you think he is little worried??? The best part in his speech blamed the last 8 years for all the tax increases and corruption in the state...Instead of blaming Corzine for it, I wanted to throw something at the TV when he lied again...Can't say I blame him, it worked when he was running, it will probably work again...
Corzine is certainly trash -- both in his personal life and as Governor. The idea that anyone would defend him is amazing...but that's the left for you...they will support anyone as long as it keeps them in power....no standards of conduct are out of bounds or no set of taxes too high. Funny how little common sense is derived from those ivy-league educations...and 'witty' sites like DAILY BEAST & the NY TIMES.
Corzine could rape a nun on national TV and still win. After all this is New Jersey. Acorn is on the case.
This is just the MSM having fun with another circus--this time the wrestling match is in three little races which usually, historically go the other way of the poltical party in power. So there is nothing new here, although the stupid MSM are having a field day with their hopelessly and chronically incorrect punditry, trying to make drama out of these elections where none exists--if anything, let the failed, inept, bigoted GOP have a field day with their victory and get punch drunk that their extremists are literally taking over the party. Let them interpret this and spin it every way they can as a referendum against Obama--let them continue to push Palin-Beck like candidates and agendas across the political spectrum--we'll see where it gets them 2010 and 2012.
sure we will
I don't think the handful of today's elections will be a statement about Obama.
If anything, it will serve as an indicator for the future of the GOP.
Will the radical right prevail? Or the "RINOs"?
I'm sure it will be if you win. i have one question do you Libs get your marching orders in a Email from the WH every morning or what? to say that this isn't a reflection of the white house and congress is ridiculous. if thing were so good it wouldn't even be a contest. If people wanted health care to pass they would be coming out in mass to get this government to move. NJ is so liberal is scary now it cant even keep a DEM in office with Obama front and center. come on people, real is real
I suspect your predictions of MY actions are about as accurate as your predictions of the future of the GOP. Good luck with "going psycho".
I have a sneaky suspicion that Corzine will win in NJ. I don't think the other candidate is so well liked that he will blow Corzine away. I don't think Obama is the important point here, tho' he may have helped a little.
NewyorkerR: Now that Liebermann won't vote with Republicans, it looks almost certain that health care reform is going to pass.
I doubt your other arguments will fare any better.
Why would anyone give a cr*ap what progressives think of the future of the GOP? You can't even analyze your own party!
Of COURSE I can analyze my own party, but why bother when its so much fun watching yours devolve into cannibalism. But keep pushing you short sighted idjit. Keep radicalizing what's left of the GOP. Fine by me.
You must be proud that your party is made up of tea partiers, birthers, death panellists and southern racists. You can't even analyze your own party!
ThinkAgain: The Democratic party is too complicated to analyze. It is a huge party that includes everybody from liberals to moderates to blue dog conservatives.
The Republican party, on the other hand, is so small that it is easy to analyze, especially since you have gotten rid of most of your RINOs.
The reason that a progressive liberal like me is concerned about the GOP, ThinkAgain, is because a healthy America needs two healthy political parties. The Republican party is very sick these days...
newswoman,
Yes indeed, I am very proud that our party "is made up of tea partiers,". Those who attended the tea parties are sending a loud and clear message to Washington. "We, the people" are in charge, and you'd better sit up straight and listen.
The tea party method will continue to grow, until the representatives are really representing. Our country will not go down without a fight. We put blood, sweat and tears into getting here, and the rational portion of our country will fight to keep her free and independent.
Your disgusting statement that "southern racists" are who comprise the GOP, should be re-evaluated. First, BOTH parties have racists, and neither can be proud of that. Are you willingly forgetting about Byrd (Dem Senator, once the high pubah of the KKK)?
The truth of racism, is that some are openly racist, while others, like Reverend Wright and many on the left are subtle about their racism. They spend 100% of their time convincing black people that they are victims, that "the man" will never allow them to succeed, that they are permitted (almost expected) to live off of the government because somewhere in their family history someone was offended, and they are owed a living. It is their right to sit on their butts, and live off of welfare and foodstamps. Well the reality is that nobody ever lives a good life on welfare. It was never meant to be a lifestyle, it was intended to be a hand up, a temporary situation to prevent starvation during a struggling time.
Except for folks like Bill Cosby, you rarely hear Democratic speech makers encouraging blacks, convincing them that with effort to educate oneself, staying off of drugs and alcohol, staying out of trouble, and finding a good job, that life would be fulfilling. Nope, you just hear the same old crap, like the stuff that Jeremiah Wright spews. Notice, Wright preaches that crap while living in a million-dollar mansion, while taking money from his poor followers. That is the worst kind of racism, because it is not easily recognized by those who are being wronged.
It is the same type of abuse that many women get from abusive husbands. The woman hears repeatedly how worthless she is, that she couldn't survive without her abusive husband, that nobody likes her, that he's the only one who cares, until she is so beaten down that getting out is nearly impossible.
It is a foul means of abuse, and that is what folks like Wright do, and the liberal left who wants the power associated with making everyone dependent upon them.
The reason you dislike the "birthers" and "death panelists" is because there is validity in both, and you clearly wouldn't like it if the "birthers" are right. As for the "death panelists", all I can say is I hope we never get far enough that they are proven right.
What you radical leftists portend is that any caution from the right has to be discredited by taking it to the extreme. It's as if someone who cautioned a child to look both ways before crossing the street, is telling that child that you will die if you cross the street, or that all drivers are psychopaths trying to murder you with their cars. The caution is valid, the radical response from leftists is a mental illness.
Do yourself a favor and read some old history books. Learn how the tyranny of the Third Reich came about gradually, inch by inch. Obese people don't get that way overnight. It happens gradually because the potential effect of that extra piece of apple pie, or chicken, or cake, is ignored. The same thing is happening to our country. It's being destroyed through the usurption of power, inch by tiny inch, day by day, law by law.
DD3075 said: "Except for folks like Bill Cosby, you rarely hear Democratic speech makers encouraging blacks, convincing them that with effort to educate oneself, staying off of drugs and alcohol, staying out of trouble, and finding a good job, that life would be fulfilling."
I guess you haven't been listening to the speeches by Michelle Obama and Barak Obama lately. I don't doubt that there are lots of others that similarly encourage blacks.
Do yourself a favor and stop watching Fox News.
Ahhhh...so it's only a message from voters if it doesn't apply to Obama. Wow, how interesting...and so opposed to the analysis of every election held in this country for more than two centuries.
So, in your mind....the voters honestly voted for Obama in 2008 to change Washington just as they honestly voted in 2000 & 2004 for Bush in reaction to the corruption of the Clinton years? But, we can only analyze results about the GOP?
That kind of thinking is usually associated with left wing nuts like Joe Stalin.
Only those obsessed with Obama think this is a judgement of his first year in office. Some will use whatever the results to reinforce their existing opinion.
MY point is that the most fascinating aspect of today's elections is whether or not the radical right rhetoric is effective.
Stalin? Wrong direction. Facists (and the GOP) line up to the right.
progressive, you think you know whats going on in your party, the tea baggers are after your party too. So dont get too comfortable!! I can here the pitter patter of their little feet in the driveway of the White House and Congress, the Senate, and before you know it you wont recignize your own government...
diamondgirl: I hate to spoil your dreams, but after a bit of success in 2012, the future of the GOP looks pretty grim.
Without moderates in your "big tent", you have no long-term chance of success. And Scozzafava shows what happens to Republican moderates these days.
AlanD2,
That "big tent" crap is just that...crap. Americans are trying to get back to our Constitution, and that means conservatism. We don't care about party as much as we care about values. Anyone with similar values will join forces to prevent extremism from destroying America.
If you look at a 12 inch ruler, with the extreme radical left at 0 and the extreme radical right at 12, you might think that moderates are at 6. Not so. Moderates in America are more at 8. When you see Repubs like Scozzafava (at 4) being held up as the only choice against Owens (at 2), both are on the left and there is really nothing there for the moderate conservatives.
Anyone who puts themself from 6 - 10 is welcome in the "big tent", regardless of their minority affiliation. Unlike the radical left who will lie to minorities to get them to vote left, I don't want to see that happen on the right. All minorities are welcome, and have to decide which is more important, the big picture like the safety, lower spending, freedom/independence, and the economic strength of their country, or their particular individual issue.
DD3075: I love the way you guys rewrite American history.
American conservatives in the 1770s and 1780s were fighting on the side of the British.
The idea that a country didn't need a king and that people (at least a few of them - blacks, women, and poor whites were not allowed) could elect their own government, these were wild-eyed radical (and yes, liberal) ideas at the time.
By the way, DD3075, without that "big tent" crap you despise, the Republican Party will never again be a power in America.
This is not about Rinos or Radical right, you are a Left wing radical. That's what your comment says about you, It's about Good old boys deciding what's best or the people. My bet is on the People!
So I'm guessing you are referring to me and not jpelham.
Anyway, it IS about the radical right and the RINOS, and THE PEOPLE (who you seem so ready to speak for) get to choose between paranoid, exclusive and perverted ideology and pragmatism. Some of today's elections will highlight that split.
You are a fool if you think the Dems in Congress and this administration represent Progressive ideals.
So come and get'um, you twit.
The Progressives are fed up with entitled politicians, the stagnant status quo, lobbyists, corruption, and ineffectiveness-just like you claim to be.
Only we don't need loaded weapons, or the subjugation of women, gays, minorities and people of other religions, to make our point.
Progressive, your guy is all about the lobbyists like, unions, corruption, ACORN and big government, and its nothing but progressives. Obama's buddies are all socialist, communists, Mao loving, Rules for Radicals philosophy believers, left wing nut bags..
You must have been a coma the past 11 months, because the parade has passed you by... Wake up and smell the revolt, it's coming to a neighborhood near you...
Yep, you're an idiot.
COMPLETELY missing the point.
COMPLETELY confusing Obama's centrist behavior with radicalism.
COMPLETELY misunderstanding that MOST of this country is sick of politics as usual, only MOST of us don't want to burn all the fields to kill the rats.
diamondgirl said: "Obama's buddies are all socialist, communists, Mao loving, Rules for Radicals philosophy believers, left wing nut bags."
Comments like this reveal you as nothing but a conservative troll. Too bad.
Stop listening to Fox News and get a life.
Progressive, for you to call me a racist means you are are the RACIST, because if thats what you got from what I said you HATE WHITE PEOPLE WHO DONT AGREE WITH YOU!
Hey diamondgirl
Do you know how I know you're an idiot?
Because I DIDN'T CALL YOU A RACIST!
Do you know how I know NOW that you ARE a racist?
Because your spittle soaked hysteria could ONLY be produced by a long mean streak of bigotry.
Progressiv, I have to apologize, I was running out when I read your comment and misread it. Sorry!
Hey Alan, I guess Fox New was right, The two Republicans have won the governors Races... I guess the Republican party is not dead yet... I am very happy to be rid of Corzine... he is just like Obama, Big government and tax and spend philosophy. I hope Obama was watching tonight and all those blue dog democrats too. Wake up and smell the Revolt...Tea baging Independents and Republicans are on their way after this Liberal Administration's agenda.
We're already hearing of absentee fraud in NJ. NJ is more backward and lawless than Afghan.
ACORN must be registering voters in NJ. again.
NJ may be the most corrupt place on earth so nothing will surprise me
I own a small home in NJ and i have goten more junk in the mail from the DNC then you would believe. desperation is in the air for sure
I don't know 1 person who likes Corzine it will be interesting to see what happens today.
NOOOOOOO..."Oldyorker"; NJ is No More corrupt than the Crooks in the South Bronx!!!
CORRUPT ACORNS !!
Yup----Corrupt Acorns !
I was just out mowing my yard. As I was trimming under the big Oak Tree, I saw two Acorns mugging a small pine cone that had wandered into their territory!
It was a terrible sight to see!
There ought to be a law..................
Now I guess that you silly right wingers just have to make a big deal out of every time that ACORN registers voters, cos you have such a strange and pathological obsession with this particular organization. So leave it to you reactionary righties to take something that ACORN has done for over the last 30 years - and turn it into a evil and sinister thing! HAHAHA.
Where was your outrage for the DOCUMENTED fraud in the double Bush elections?
Yep, that's what I thought. Feet of clay.
23 newspapers...inlcuding the NY TIMES, WASH POST, etc. conducted investigations and examinations of the 2000 in Florida and every scenario found Bush the winner. When liberal publications debunk liberal propaganda you know there is nothing there. Of course, to follow your logic we'd also have to throw out the Kennedy win over Nixon in 1960 and the Hayes win over Tilden in the 1870's. What fun, huh? And, so irelevant to today.
BS, his brother was govenor of the deciding state, he stole the 2000 election and he raised the terror alert level to scare people into voting for him the second eletion. When you investigate manufactured information you get manufactured results. Bush was not elected he was installed in the WH.
Bravo!
FIRST of all... "he didn't win" (Thanks Tim) -It was awarded to him
by a Supreme Court top-heavy with Republican-appointed "judges".
NON-PARTISAN my A-nkle.
I hated Bush, but you have to let go of this obsession you have that he wasnt legitimate...I can also understand you resentment, but now that your party is in, they are acting worse than he did...So get a gripp and stop drinking the cool aid and take a nap..
what fraud?
What documented fraud progressive? Seriously! Put up or shut up!
jpelhamtn: You're wrong, as usual. Given a recount of all of Florida (a likely scenario had the Supreme Court not made its corrupt decision), Gore would likely have squeaked by in Florida. From Wikipedia (slightly reformatted):
"Review of all ballots statewide (never undertaken)
%u2022 Standard as set by each county canvassing board during their survey - Gore wins by 171
%u2022 Fully punched chad and limited marks on optical ballots - Gore wins by 115
%u2022 Any dimples or optical mark - Gore wins by 107
%u2022 One corner of chad detached or optical mark - Gore wins by 60"
NewyorkerR and thetone: See my reply to jpelhamtn.
I still disagree with you on every point, Obama is a left leaning Liberal, he is as far left as any president we ever had. People dont like it, we wanted change but not this much change. It looks like you have followed him on his coat tails, what a shame.
Big Announcement: Health care is not going to be done this year, do you think the Blue dogs are a little scared about tonights results or what?
diamondgirl: Obama is clearly a moderate Democrat - a centrist in today's political spectrum.
A radical leftist would have had us out of Afghanistan and Iraq by now.
yes, and Acorn front groups, the SEIU, Corzine and the DNC are at the heart of it.
Corzine enacted a law this year that has allowed people to walk into the registrars office and take out 10-20 ballots at a time and return them with supposed votes. People are reporting all over NJ that they have somehow voted absentee when they haven't even voted yet.
The DNC in desperation are robo calling for the independent Daggett and trashing Christie.
We've seen how the 0bama administration handled the convictions of the black panthers with weapons outside the polling place in Philly so don't expect any investigation into the problems in NJ.
Democrats are constantly trying to enact laws that encourage voter fraud like no need to show ID or comparing signatures. They are corrupt and the only way they can keep power is to rig the system. it's time for the to be changed to proof of ID at the polling place, as well as when recieving absentee votes. If joe democrat can shoe and ID to rent a video at blockbuster they need to show one to vote... period. Time to end the democratic voter fraud now!
Bring back the 'poll tax', right, Baddchild?
Really rich coming from someone who probably voted for the GOP,a party who gave us the biggest voter fraud in American history, courtesy of the 2000 Florida disgrace.
Everything you've posted in your cut and paste diatribe taken from some fringe wingnut site can be refuted by fact, but why waste one's time? Facts - scientific, social, technical, legal - never mattered tto the fringe rightwing.
The left wing 'Stalin Democrats' that you see on Daily Best don't cafre about voter fraud...because they have been practicing it in big cities all over America since the 1930's.
NEWSWOMAN mentions the poll tax -- which of course was a reprehensible practice begun and supported by Democrats (Wilson, Roosevelt, Truman, Kennedy) and thankfully ended by the conservative GOP as they began to make inroads into Southern states...and after GOP votes got the Civil Rights Act of 1964 passed in Congress over the objections of Democrats.
jsdc007 - I was home for lunch the day of the 2000 election in florida when I got a call from the DNC to tell me my grandmother may have voted for Buchanan and that as a jew she might want to call her election officlials. well one, I know my grandmother didn't vote, two weather or not she was jewish shouldn't have mattered or be public knowledge and 3 she died December 1999. Point being the DNC had allready contracted with a telemarketer out of texas long before election day with this allready planned as they knew that the democratic party's ballot that THEY approved could be used to incite a panic. Bet you didn't see that part in the recount movie did ya.
The way they went about trying to circumvet legal votes was criminal and proves the democrats are all about fraud.
Newswoman - you do realize that jpelhamtn is correct that it was the dems responible for the poll tax right? I hope you just use the moniker "newswoman" because you think you are one because you post on a blog and do not really work in the news industry because usually do not come off as to bright.... like a few fries short of a happy meal.
I always say when I cut and paste something so 007 here is a cut and paste from the fringe wingnut site called the Washington Post...
"...The New Jersey Democratic State Committee admitted paying for automated phone messages promoting not their own party's candidate, Gov. Jon Corzine -- but Independent Chris Daggett, in an apparent effort to siphon votes from Republican Chris Christie, Politicker NJ reported."
Badbrat do us all a favor a lay off the coffee. You're awake, we get it.
Baddchild: You do realize that the Dixiecrats responsible for Southern poll taxes all left the Democratic Party after Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, don't you?
They are all now proud members of the Republican Party.
djanimaequeen wrote: "Badbrat do us all a favor a lay off the coffee. You're awake, we get it."
And you're not. I suggest a Starbucks or 2 for you queenie. No more kool-aid.
"NO" it will not,The talking heads like Joe Scarborough and others are "spinning" these races like its the end of Obama's "YES WE CAN" journey "NONE" of these races change anything ,There governors, DON"T BELIEVE THE SPIN coming from the right-wing spinmasters, It makes me laugh at these spinmasters break dancing on the floor and spinning on there heads......! There breaking up into peices like I predicted, and they know it.........!
wow !!!! koolaid getting low
Uh, hello, these races have nothing to do with Obama and everything to do with the gubernatorial candidates. Corzine in NJ is disliked by everyone, be they Republican or Democrat, and Deeds ran a hopeless race. In fact, until the very last week, the White House and Deeds had a frosty relationship (in part because Deeds ran such a bad campaign). At the end of the day, local gubernatorial and state elections are never harbingers of Congressional and White House successes or failures.
Three Obama campaign visits to NJ for Corzine. Last one was on Sunday. It obviously matters to Obama...
Of course it matter to Obama, splinter. But the loss of any Democrat in today's elections will not have a material impact on Obama's administration.
Leave New Jersey to it's own demise, who cares about a state thats so corrupt.
Like the RNC, they take their orders from the inside controllers.
The only thing that will be a challenge is for the cable networks to dream up nonsense to have their pundits to say....
Obama has less than zero to do with all three of the so called earth changing elections & anyone with even a small brain knows that so that leaves only Fox Faux news to talk about it along with the regular pundits on the rest of the shows....
Uhhhhhhhhhhh -- if Obama had nothing to dowith them then why did he waste all those days campaigning in Virginia and New Jersey -- yet could not take time to make a troop decision for Afghanistan?
FOX News, of course, rated by the liberal PEW CHARITABLE TRUST as the only network to offer totally balanced coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election.
you got that right. Fox is the onley real news.
HERE HERE!!
jpelhamtn asserted: "FOX News, of course, rated by the liberal PEW CHARITABLE TRUST as the only network to offer totally balanced coverage of the 2008 Presidential Election."
I would love to see a link to your sources. Or did you just make it up?
I read the Pew Research Center's "Winning the Media Campaign: How the Press Reported the 2008 General Election", October 22, 2008, and I did not see any mention of the "fair and balanced" network. See:
http://www.journalism.org/node/13307
Less than zero huh? I guess that's why he's spent so much time in Jersey already? Not that he has anything more pressing on his list of things to do, like, say, looking out for our troops?
In every election that gets national attention New Jersey plays an oakey-doke on the media. The polls always make the repugs look like they have a chance then BAM, the actual election shows them losing by 10 points. Happened wirh McCain. Happened with Bush. Happened with Corzine the last time. Instead of recognizing this, these guys fall for it everytime. When looking at the polls in NJ, people forget that it's the actual votes that count, not the polls. There is a powerful Democratic machine in NJ that once it flexes it's muscles can turn out folks to the polls in droves. Christie's only chance was that the election stayed low key with low turnout. Now that attention is being paid to the race, expected turnout is increasing. As dems outnumber repugs in NY by 2 to 1, the more that happens, the more Christie will be defeated by.
Obama i a 1 term president and less if we can figure out where he was born, The desperation is fun to see. as you Dem's don't have the votes to pass this HC bill and need all the help you can get. the only silver lining to all this is if you do pass the bill you will be giving a repeal platform for the GOP to run on so thank you in advance.
Just think, NewyorkerR. After Obama wins in 2012, you will have another 4 years to complain about his birth certificate! Enjoy...
P.S. Did you notice that Lieberman is no longer voting with Republicans on the health care reform bill? Looks like tough sledding for Republicans now...
Virginia Election News-Media Fails to Report on Misprision of a Felony by Bob McDonnell, Government Attorneys, and Judges Obstructing the Rights of Parents.
The evidence is that there is on going violations of Va. Code §§ 18.2-22, 25, 26, 481(5), 482, and, 499, by a criminal conspiracy to deprive Virginia parents of the right of access to an impartial court and jury trial to hold government attorneys and judges accountable for malfeasance by obstructing statutory rights (See, criminal complaints filed with the Virginia FBI/AUSA (http://home.earthlink.net/~treason; and http://home.earthlink.net/~malfeasance). However, to date the media in Virginia refuses repeatedly to conduct an investigation of the record of malfeasance (See, http://www.liamsdad.org/others/isidoro.shtml; and, http://home.earthlink.net/~isidoror).
As explained previously, Bob McDonnell has participated in a conspiracy to deny citizens of Virginia of the right to access to an impartial court and civil jury trial to hold accountable government attorneys and judges for targeting me in retaliation for seeking an investigation of their criminal obstruction of my statutory rights as a father and Virginia civil litigator. Thus, I am preparing a federal RICO suit under 18 U.S.C. §§ 1961-1968, against Bob McDonnell et al., for"conducting the affairs of" an "enterprise" engaged in or affecting interstate and foreign commerce by means of a "pattern" of "racketeering activity," and for conspiring to accomplish the goals of a criminal conspiracy to punish me for litigating to enforce my statutory rights (see, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VAkEfjcA5sQ).
Our Republic and Commonwealth can not long survive the unbridled tyranny of government attorneys and a judiciary that have surreally placed themselves above and beyond the law. We must recall the sorry behavior of German judges, lawyers, and law schools use of cronyism to aid Hitler and the NAZI's to power. "By the time the gas vans came and the human slaughter factories were built in Auschwitz and the other death camps, the murder of the six million Jews and other persecuted minorities was done completely within the framework of German law." Yad Vshem, The Holocaust Martyrs' and Heroes Remembrance Authority, 2004.
Sincerely,
Isidoro Rodriguez, Esq., Member in Good Standing of the Bar of the U.S. Supreme Court
Not to worry acorn is on hand in New Jersey, and the thugs from Seiu unions. They got their marching orders from obama, and they are going to cause corruption to this election.
Maybe Mickey Mouse will win.
UNION ACORNS !!
What is UP with the SEIU hate?
I don't listen to Rush so I don't know how they have offended.
But the SERVICE WORKERS are strong arm thugs?
Cuz every rich guy is scared of his CLEANING LADY?
Cuz its unconstitutional and unethical for the lowest wage earners in the country, most of whom aren't offered healthcare, to want to make enough to support their families?
Please Alan, if you get a chance, explain.
progressiveaggressive: Republicans have always been against unions.
Most corporations are run by Republicans, and businesses hate to pay for union wages and benefits. The Republican Party has always looked out for corporations and has opposed legislation helping unions, such as today's card check.
Not only that, but unions have historically supported the Democratic Party, both financially and with campaign workers.
Ah, so its just a general dislike, not anything specific or pertinent.
Not so surprising.
Thanks for keeping me from having to read through their websites.
progressiveaggressive: I should add that my comments were directed toward the traditional Republican Party, the party of business, and its power structure.
In today's Republican Party, the former business-oriented power structure has been largely replaced by conservative extremists who have different issues, such as abortion and immigration. But as far as I can tell, the anti-union sentiment is still there.
Uh, whiny, I'm a member of SEIU, and I've neither been strongarmed, nor invited to strongarm any local political events. As a matter of fact, I think that our SEIU locals are pretty wussy. I suspect Repubs, if they really thought about it, would be pleased as hell with SEIU.
Not for nothing, Corzine was effin' up NJ a long time before the masses were familiar with Obama. It's really disgusting what goes on there.
And NewyorkerR...We do know where Obama was born. It's called the United States of America. Ever hear of it? And when asked to see the birth certificate, you said it wasn't real. ie: Imperical evidence isn't good enough for you.
Get a real argument please.
Bet you didn't know a certificate of live birth and a birth certificate are two completely different documents did you? The certificate of live birth proves that there was a child born in that hospital on that particular day. His birth certificate we have not seen yet. I'm just sayin'......
You're wrong, thetone. Just sayin' ...
No, No, No!!! You are totally wrong. It is a state form which may be called a birth certificate or a certificate of live birth. They have been interchangeable for fifty years at least. In our state, if you need a birth certificate you get a certificate of live birth.
They are One and the Same!!
Yup, you "say" all the time... waiting for sensible content.
key points:
this is effectively a referendum on dem leadership because that will be how it will be discussed. perception is reality.
there's a possibility the dem machine will save corzine's bacon.
if repubs sweep it will be a warning shot across the dems' bow. a little snowball will have started on it's downhill roll.
dems have themselves to blame for this situation, they should have zoned in on the economy and back-burnered health care reform until unemployment had been significantly reduced.
You have GOT to - either get OFF whatever it is you're on..
Or get ON something. Your ability to reason is no longer (if ever) present.
a bit flip this morning aren't we? i look at things from an unentangled perspective, on or off.
Test Obama's authority? Didn't realize he had AUTHORITY over local races.
Obama's going down. Yippee!!!!!!!!!!!!
Hillary 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry, TK798999. Hillary's next shot will be in 2016.
DB,
"Test" PRESIDENT Obama's authority?
How? That IS the "authority" !
He IS President of the United States Of America.
This article is NOT cheat-sheet-worthy.
This article is not worthy of the space it takes up.
I see the Dems are stacking the deck in these elections. Reports are coming in showing where their thugs are trying to throw the election in NJ with massive voter fraud. One thing their unions are so good at.
You forgot to throw in "ACORN", Jinglebob.
Fox News will never forgive you...
"Jinglebob" ... is that a typo?
Shouldn't it be "Jingobob"...?
"In Iowa, Second thoughts on Obama" The NY Times article written on obama about how the people in Iowa who were so enamored by him during his campaign are having BUYER'S REMORSE. Obama's polls in Iowa were at 64% in April they are now at 53%. Biggest complaint about obama is not taking responsibility for the problems he faces. and Afghanistan.
53% ! oh woe. I mean compared to 20%, we're in big big trouble; by less than half!
Obama is faced with a conservative opposition that wants absolutely no change of any kind. They just want the country to continue on in the same way it has been for the last 30 years, which is what got us into this mess.
They do not have a single new idea and have done nothing to help the United States in this crisis, but only oppose everything Obama says and does. Mark my words, if we follow their lead this country will be headed for disaster. No joke. I'm convinced that their policies will ruin us.
OBAMA MUST FAIL!!!
Thank you, Lum Rushbah.
mcmchugh99,
On Oct. 14th, you posted on TDB your hatred for America. You said you live "overseas", having left America 15 years ago with no desire to return. You said you hate people in general, and conservatives in particular (wishing you could use nepalm gas on all of them, killing them, and then go to lunch). You don't have any friends and said animals are more evolved than humans.
Please explain for TDB why you consistently want to insert yourself into America's politics. How can you refer to yourself and America as "us"?
If ANYONE takes your recommendation when you say "mark my words", then they may be as mentally and emotionally unbalanced as you. Your post on the 14th is the most disquieting post I have seen on TDB.
You rational TDB posters need to know what kind of people are posting here.
good grief; "acorn" from the perps who brought you FLa. 2000.
If this is a win for GnOPers, then good; Obama may get a clue he needs to solve the puzzle of 2010... change.
that will be the point.
The comments posted are more interesting than the original Reuters article. So full of hatred for the GOP. The GOP is redefining itself and restating the principal for which it stands. Why do all you leftist care what to GOP does. If the GOP and the trend of these elections have no value or are so wrong America is destined to live to next 30 years under Obama socialism with perpetual 15 percent unemployment as it is in Europe. If they are so meaningless why is Obama, Biden and so many leftest organization so involved in trying to affect the outcome of these campaigns.
You all that think the last 30 years were bad are probably clueless 18 year olds who never worked or paid taxes or suffering from Alzheimer decease. Regardless which group you belong to the result will be the same. You will never know what you are missing.
For those of you that insist on blaming Bush for two illegitimate wars I will remind you that Democrat started more wars and killed more Americans over the last 100 years than republicans have ever done. So get over this arrogate view that you know so much better.
In the end only freedom without government interference and control will prevail. 70 years of big government central planning has never worked anywhere in the world and it will not work here. I could be wring but I believe these elections are a start of the awakening of the American people and the hopes and dreams for their children was to what America should be going forward.
I can guarantee that Americas will not stand for a jack-booted big socialist autocratic government stepping on their freedoms and their necks. This highlights the meaning of the colonial outcry "GIVE ME LIBERTY OR GIVE ME DEATH". Obama can take his change and shove it!
(Yawn)
Government BAD.
People GOOD.
People will rise up and.. what?
Create a government NOT run by people?
Governments are fallible because ALL PEOPLE ARE FALLIBLE.
Our government is a reflection of US.
Simplistic, petty, greedy, short-sighted, partisan (go team!), ignorant, inefficient, and ineffective.
You might do well, you should consider running for something.
You "OBAMA - NOTS" are treating this relatively meaningless election as though it's the Catholic Church and Obama's the Pope!!!
Eventhough we understand politicians compete in earnest, whenever there's an election.
dxgmmpa, are you running for president? If so you'.ve got my vote!
dxgmmpa: I would have to say that the hatred posted here is mostly by conservatives.
Amazing how unpopular Obama is among conservatives these days...
Speaking of hatred, your post stands out as a good example of it.
Just checkin' here, whose posts are these?
"By showing how crazy people on the extreme right have become,"
"The Republican party is very sick these days..."
"Comments like this reveal you as nothing but a conservative troll."
"(a likely scenario had the Supreme Court not made its corrupt decision),"
".....the Dixiecrats responsible for Southern poll taxes all left the Democratic Party after Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964, don't you? They are all now proud members of the Republican Party."
Well yes, they are yours, Alan. And you're trying to say that the "hatred posted here is mostly by conservatives" ? Either I don't understand your posts, and you are a conservative, or there is an equal amount of hate from the liberals. Your posts are relatively mild compared to progressiveaggressive, eg:
"Our government is a reflection of US. Simplistic, petty, greedy, short-sighted, partisan (go team!), ignorant, inefficient, and ineffective."
or
"Do you know how I know you're an idiot?Because I DIDN'T CALL YOU A RACIST!
Do you know how I know NOW that you ARE a racist? Because your spittle soaked hysteria could ONLY be produced by a long mean streak of bigotry."
So Alan, quit with the feelings of superiority. They don't suit you or your liberal stance.
DD3075: I didn't say conservatives are the only ones with hate posts. Liberals have some crazy extremists too (although not as many as conservatives do).
But during I my year of reading the DB, I have noted that conservatives have more than their fair share of posting hateful stuff.
Thanks for the dishonest parsing DD.
So here is my quote in the CONTEXT it was made.
"Progressive, for you to call me a racist means you are are the RACIST, because if thats what you got from what I said you HATE WHITE PEOPLE WHO DONT AGREE WITH YOU!" (diamondgirl)
"Do you know how I know you're an idiot?
Because I DIDN'T CALL YOU A RACIST!
Do you know how I know NOW that you ARE a racist?
Because your spittle soaked hysteria could ONLY be produced by a long mean streak of bigotry." (progressiveaggressive)
and THEN,
"Progressiv, I have to apologize, I was running out when I read your comment and misread it. Sorry!" (diamondgirl)
But anytime you want to have a "hateful quote" contest, let me know.
"But anytime you want to have a "hateful quote" contest, let me know."
Thanks for the offer, aggressiveprogressive, but I would not take any pride in participating in a "hateful quote" contest. If that's what floats your boat, consider yourself the winner.
Hmmm, let's see:
No Democrat has won that seat in question in NY for over a century.
No sitting President has held the Governor's office of Virginia (long time Repig State) since the 70s.
Yup, if Dems don't win those two elections, it's ALL Obama's fault.
No wonder the Repugnant Party is shrinking---They're all so brilliant
Talk about grasping at straws. I think the Republicans are grabbing a whole bunch of them by the armfuls!
I made thousands of calls to elect Jon Corzine governor
I know all of his campaign promises.
He said to hold him accountable for his promises.
This was not about Obama, This was about the fact that Corzine did not do the things he promised.
Thank you.
