Were Black Lawmakers Set Up?

Seven African-American lawmakers are under investigation by the House Ethics Committee, while not a single white lawmaker is the subject of a full-scale investigation. The seven black Congressmen account for about 15 percent of the total number of African-American members in the House. An unnamed House Democrat told Politico that members of the Congressional Black Caucus worry that they are being set up. The House members under investigation: California Democrats Maxine Waters and Laura Richardson, Reps Carolyn Kilpatrick (D-MI), Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Donald Payne (D-NJ), and Del. Donna Christensen (D-U.S. Virgin Islands).

The more relevant question is who heads up the House ethics committee?

If you are going to make the crazy claim that the head of the House ethics committee is an evil racist, shouldn't you at least know her name?

Rep. Zoe Lofgren, D-CA is the Chairperson.

Simple solution, put the damn corrupt traders and treasonous crooks before a jury of 12 citizens, axe the political charged committee. No way in hell any white or other color crooks should get away with criminal behavior either.

are you sure there's no racism..anywhere? I tend to think there might be some white folks who are clinging to the last thin fibers of what they feel is their entitled power.

But don't take my word for it. Ask your cloeset black friend. And no, I dont mean the black guy who sits in the cubicle near yours at work. I don't mean that funny black guy in the mail room. I mean, talk to your closest black friend--the one with whom you have a deep and lasting friendship based on mutual trust and respect. Get his thoughts.

Why would you be surprised if whites were investigated by the ethics committee? Whites are investigated all the time.

Face facts, djanimaequeen----the ethics committee is not on a racist vendetta against black democratic Congressmen. The ethics committee is investigating the black congressmen because there are credible allegations against them.

see the problem and why you are called out each and everytime for your IGNORANT COMMENTS ..outside of your fan club..

..you had to use the BLACK democratic congressmen AND congresswomen ..to be correct..

it's the fact.. if these were crooked white republicans and we know there is and has been plenty.. you wouldn't DARE describe them as white republicans.. and why you MIGHT be deemed as racist or someone who is prejudice against people of color..

NewyorkerR: Before you get too complacent, let me remind you of people in the Bush 43 administration (doubtless all Republicans) who have been convicted:

Lewis "Scooter" Libby, convicted by a federal jury for lying during the CIA leak investigation.

Lester Crawford, a former commissioner of the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), pleaded guilty to charges of "conflict of interest and false reporting of information about stocks he owned in food, beverage and medical device companies he was in charge of regulating.

Brian J. Doyle, former deputy press secretary for the Department of Homeland Security, pleaded no contest to seven counts of using a computer to seduce a child and 16 counts of transmitting harmful material to a minor.

Claude A. Allen, former assistant to the president for domestic policy, pleaded guilty to one count of misdemeanor theft concerning multiple fraudulent returns to a Target store.

David H. Safavian, a former chief of staff of the General Services Administration, was found guilty of lying and obstructing justice while covering up his many efforts to assist disgraced Republican lobbyist Jack Abramoff in acquiring two properties controlled by the GSA, and also of concealing facts about a lavish weeklong golf trip he took with Abramoff to Scotland and London in the summer of 2002.

John T. Korsmo, former chairman of the Federal Housing Finance Board, pleaded guilty to one count of making false statements to the Senate Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs Committee regarding his participation in an October 2002 congressional fundraising event.

Over 30 members of Ronald Reagan's administration went to prison.

And Democrats? Only one person in Bill Clinton's administration went to prison. Very interesting.

That's just the way the numbers fell out. Evertone knows the Dems would do anything before investigating a Black member of Congress. Only now after months of back room dealing and stalling they have to do something. But let's look at the out come first. Bet nothing comes of it. Oh by the way, Blacks can be just as much a crook as a White man just look at all the failed city governments around the country.

Not surprising this comes from Politico.
Obama "won" the democratic nomination by smearing the Clintons as racists.
Would not surprise me if these politicians are doing the same, trying to play the race card as an excuse for their criminal behavior.
Maybe the investigation is leading back to the Black Caucus and they are merely following the evidence trial?

The fact that all of those being investigated are black when they only comprise a tiny fraction of the house and senate seats is at best suspicious statistically spraking. I'm not saying that they are innocent I just have a hard time believing that they are the only ones deserving of investigation.

djanimaequeen:

I hear you. Loud and clear.

But you're surrounded by white folks who dont have any black friends. As such, they are always the first to dismiss any signs of racial angst--especially now that a black man is president. White folks who only hang out with other white folks are never forced to examine anything beneath the surface. This doesnt make them racist, per se. But it does prove very diffcult when trying to engage them in meaningful discourse. As you very well know..

NOT TRUE!!! AT 15% of the House, 10% of the Senate and 11% of the Supreme Court African Americans comprise 12.9% of the 3 Estates of our Federal Government. (The overall African American population is somewhere around q12% - 13%.)

I think you need to either learn math or learn how to look things up. 39 members of the house ( out of 435) ( about 9 %) does not equal 15%. one member of the senate ( burris ) out of 100 equals 1%, not 10%. The only one you got right was the supreme court. So that gives us 41 out of 544. Or about 7.5 %. Your truthiness certianly doesn't make me inclined to listen to you.

Mary50:

Really?

So Obama's ascent to the oval office has eradicated all racsim? Everyone just loves them some black folks? No one is at all threatened by the reality of a black man as president?

Like I suggested to another seemingly myopic person in these parts. I think, before making such pronouncements, you should engage your closest black friend. Really. Get their thoughts on the current state of race relations. Barack Obama might have power, but in certain corners of the lawmaking and corporate world, other black folks are getting punished for it. Seriously. Ask around.

Perhaps Black politicians have been pampered so long they have come to believe they are entitled to all the graft they generate. Now the cry of racism is not as frightening as it once was because the libs in this country have worn it out.

This is hilarious... Nancy Pelosi set this committee up because Bush and his benefactors were such an illegal disaster. Now it is now ensnaring Democrats, who are Black.

I can understand if Karl Rove, Rumsfeld or even if Cheney set up this committee that the black Democrats could cry foul... But its Nancy Pelosi, one of the most leftist (...and someone who can take a hit!) politician in DC.

Its kind of funny to hear one politician bring down one another. I only promised my cousin a county job for $75k, while Joe the politician promised $500k worth of construction contracts for his campaign contributions. Why are they only investigating me? LOL!

Let's play the blame game... Its not our fault... They are racist... Let's not take into account of one's actions, but play the card.

MORE IMPORTANTLY who's the "unnamed House Democrat" making the ABSURD ALLEGATION? Who was that person who "told Politico that members of the Congressional Black Caucus worry that they are being set up?" If there's a SET UP, this Unnamed House Democrat is the Set Up.

If, in reality there was a question raising the issue of a possible "racial set-up", I am confident such an issue would have been FORMALLY ADDRESSED by Congresswoman Barbara Lee, the Chairperson of the Congressional Black Caucus.

Inquiries and Investigations are what the House Ethics Committee is responsible for. Most of their inquiries are to clarify legal issues related to their House mambers, nothing new there.

I SUSPECT there's something ODD 'going on here!!!' It just doesn't Smell Right!

I would say 2 things:

1) How can anyone be "set up" if they do nothing wrong? That almost tells me the CBC is admitting to wrongdoing.

2) The reason that they are all black could be that rather than each being investigated for independent crimes, it could be a group-like criminal action, where one brings in another who brings in another. I don't think we know enough yet.

What supports my theory is that when crime groups like the Mafia are investigated, it's likely that everyone would be Italian.
