Life After Oprah
"Twenty-five years feels right in my bones and it feels right in my spirit. It's the perfect number. It's the exact right time," Oprah Winfrey told her live audience on Friday, the day after the head of Harpo announced that the talk-show legend's last show would air on Sept. 9, 2011. "This show has been my life, and I love it enough to know when it's time to say goodbye," Oprah said through tears and a breaking voice. Watch her announcement below.

She is not leaving for 2 years. And her fans will be able to stay in touch and join in her new adventures. She deserves everything she accomplished, by herself, giving, back to women, families, homes, society, educating, bringing reading back into the homes.Giving gifts, encouraging, empowering, and opening doors. She single handed made a difference. Even if one does not like her, she deserves respect and all her wealth

I couldn't agree more--she brought many difficult topics into the spotlight that otherwise would not have seen the light of day.
However I am terrified by what kind of ass clowns might fill the huge void after Oprah's departure. Even Dr. Phil is merely a glorified Jerry Springer Show.

What kind of fairy tail world are you living in- difficult topics, spotlighted womens issues give me a brake she did it for one reason only pure profits one billion of them and now she's going for a trillion with her own network. She had her chance at standing by women with Hillary's run for the presidency with all Oprah talk of women takening their place she backed down and went with the man, where was her up with women then

She's starting her own cable channel (OWN) where she can control the distribution of her own show for once.
It's about full control.
Soon as the cable network is up and running . . .
Probably work out of L.A.
She ain't going anywhere.
sophia5
I think she's just saying goodbye to Chicago.
Give her credit though. She didn't utter the annoying cliché . . .
. . . I'M GOING TO SPEND MORE TIME WITH MY FAMILY.

good luck Oprah!

It's not like she's decided to retreat from the world and join a Tibetan monastery or something - she's just changing channels.
tolatetocry
didn't she have a channel, called Oxygen? what happened to that? With the exception of Sarah Palin I haven't watched that shark jumper in years. Funny she had to announce this during Sarahpoolza, Sarah supporters could give a rip what Opie does, but it does give the Tina Browns of the world something ELSE to talk about.

Don't know how to break it to Oprah fans...
But I could never get into her show.
The one time I watched it, there were all these filters softening the set and faces of guests and host, and elevator music in the background, and I thought I was going to GAG.
mwoman
Having said that, I know she has provided tremendous support to women, and that's all good. I have no problem with that.

victimization and chickification of America is Oprah's legacy.

.. 2011 is not quite 2 years..it's less..and you don't know when in 2011 she will actually stop the live taping.. and start with the programs which didn't make the roll in (25) years.. yet to air..
..personally (25) years is too long as noted.. she was getting way out there for me at times..especially the last two years..
.. however, she's STILL one of a lifetime> God's best humanitarian this planet has ever seen thus far.. and if any-one is to be nominated for...or deserves the Nobel Peace Prize- Award..it is she..

People that make money from other people's problems are sick. People that use charity as a way to get approval, lack. Anybody that thinks T.V. is a way to learn about life is a moron. Talk show hosts that create billions of bucks for themself and don't pay and can rewrite another's passage or experience are fucked up. Any model who places herself on the cover of her very magazine each month has a bit more than issue and ego.
People that like to get involved in a stranger's business at the drop of hat are nosy and never have enough information to actually present a case in public.

I feel there is going to be an opening. Not an Opah-ning...somebody should do the typical American cheese marketing scheme- and find a girl named Open and start and Open Show...sponsored by The Gap.

"It feels right in my spirit."
What the hell does that mean?
So long to the Queen of Gobeldigook.
tolatetocry
would that be just in time to stump full time for Barry?

I have always found Oprah racist towards Hispanics. You can count how many Hispanics she has had on her show on one hand. She would rather have some white or black nobody on her show before she would have a Latino.

Chicago papers and tv, Opie pissed caused people of Chicago didn't kiss her ass when she shut down Michigan Ave in Sept.
Richy Daley crying to black group that white people didn't properly appreciate Oprah or they would have been happy to shut down the city for her.
Sounds a little like people of DC not appreciating Michelle for shutting down DC to go to open market to buy a dozen eggs and a head of cabbage.
Those damn white people, trying to get to work and do what they want to do and not appreciate what the smartest women in the world were doing for them. The nerve!
mwoman
yeah, totally.
