The fact that we are focused on the "hottest", instead of the most capable answers part of the question of why the country is in the crapper. My vote for the most capable would be Abigail Adams.
Do me a favor. Keep this crap off my Daily Beast. Or do you prefer not to have any women readers?
I totally agree....this is crap!

Please Tell me SueKatz, JUST when did the DAily Beast become "YOUR's"??
Thanks Sue, you have it right. This is just plain "hip hop" BS.
"'Hip hop' BS?" what kind of statement is that? Male readers should speak out against this too AND we should all shoot down any racists remarks like the one above. Thanks SueKatz for speaking up and drevilo please put a little more thought into your comments.
agreed, i wish there was at least one media source that would consistently call out sexism in our society instead of just perpetuating it with filler features.
I agree on the misguided focus on the "hottest". However, it is interesting that the top two "hottest" are also two of the brightest. Michelle Obama's tremendous accomplishments are well-known. Jackie Kennedy was an intelligent and accomplished writer/editor. It is believed that she did much of the work on "Profiles in Courage". In 1950's America, she received credit for nothing other than looking beautiful. Thank goodness times have changed.
"...it is believed....". By whom exactly? Better informed people realize that Schlesinger wrote the book.
She's occupying the seat, nothing more, nothing less. If she was just Michelle walking down the street, nobody would take a second look, especially at her "stylish" ensembles...
BTW, Piers Morgan...puhleeeze.
Michelle Obama is a decent woman who has done nothing more than thousands of other women lawyers, except that she has snagged a popular president as her husband. She must feel terribly embarrassed by the gushing, fawning attempts to turn her into a goddess.
Any more than
Any of the other first ladies?

They're not lawyers!
I liked Madonna's boobs better
Laura Bush sexy??? Ewwwww nasty thought.
Piers Morgan is BRITISH! This sort of crap is why we declared our independence :-)
Happy July Fourth Everybody!
Amen SCMax101!!!!!
Move Hillary to #3 and Laura to #4 and this list would be correct .
I know hot-Michelle ain't hot.
It would have been nice
To have some dates of residency
In the White House for
Reference.
It's called high-school history class. Maybe you've heard of it. Maybe you even took it. Too bad you didn't pay attention to it. Sheesh.

Seriously????? I would love to see the day when a size 14 (and I think I am being overly generous describing Michelle as a size 14), frumpy, mid 40's soccer mom makes the cut on ANYONE's list as hot. BTW - these are your standards MSM, so don't shoot the messenger! ANd while we are on the subject, PLEASE stop with all the accolades to her fashion sense. COME ON!!! My grandmother dresses more fashionable than she does. And note to M - pleated, full skirts with a tiny cardigan on top are not your friend sister...

What a horrible article. To think for one moment we need to protray First Ladies of the USA as "hot" is just plain immature and stupid. Close these type dumb attempts to ramp up your readship; hire some writers with a little gray around the ears.
This is insulting crap- only mentions on the Rachel Maddow show ever brought me over here and I may not stay much longer- between bullshit questions like this and idiotic commenters like you know who.
TBD you're slipping or you never were.
Rachel Maddow...the "authority" on hot women. Maybe if Michelle gets a bob and starts sporting the Elvis Costello frames will Rachel take notice.
I don't want to think of these women as hot, but as accomplished.
The most accomplished, warm, capable, humble and personally strongest First Lady was PAT NIXON. It's a shame this educated, positive, wonderful woman has never been given her just praise. Oh, but yes, that's right she did not fit the mold of the elitist media...so her inspiring personal story is never told.
Aside from changing her name from Thelma, bearing two children, and standing by that b*****d during HUAC and Watergate, what were her other accomplishments?
Might as well get the facts straight if you're going to bother. Ellen Arthur never graced the White House; she died before Chester Allen became president. But she was indeed lovely.

Geez....HOT......what a rotten thing to ID the first ladies with. I must say some of the chosen ones were quite classy. I put Jackie O at the top.
Okay, so I was going to check out your top ten list. But then the first person I see is Hillary Clinton, who is not hot in any conceivable way (don't take my word for it, just look at Bill's behavior). So I didn't bother looking at the rest of the list, fearing that Mamie and Bess might be on it too.
OMG!!!... (getting past the this "story" is sexist take) how on earth did HRC get in this list??!! Ther is NOTHING sexy about her in any way, now or then. She is not asexual, she is antisexual; countersexy; she is the antimatter of sex.
I think it's a bit of the power/dominatrix thing. To each his own . . .
Hey, where's Betty Ford?

I would not say Hillary Clinton is 'sexy'. I think she has real beauty, no doubt.
Hillary has deliberately squelched sexuality in her image. This is one asset she has not exploited. And I give her a lot of credit for that. She is a woman who knows what real personal power is and she has real personal power. She wants to be taken seriously and she knows what too many women nowadays don't or stubbornly dismiss, and that is all people, men and women, won't take you SERIOUSLY if you use sexiness as a weapon or tool. Sexiness will influence people but there is a price to pay. Sexiness in the world of politics and business diminishes personal power.
This story is disturbing. Seriously dude... Get a grip! Picking on elderly people is just fowl and I find it rather sick that you look at Former Presidential wives as you have. Next time you want to write a story on Sexy women just outsource it, as you certainly have very poor taste and and even a worse outlook on what "Sexy" is.
Thank you.
